ABOUT US

“A strengths-based approach to Health for our community by our community” Tuuhono Hauora is a Kaupapa Māori Hauora that is responsive to strengthening the health gaps of whānau in our community. Health is different for everyone so building a team that can relate, connect and work hard from this community, means we can strengthen and bridge health inequities.

Tuuhono’s birth began in 2021 COVID lock downs and changes taught us that Maaori people have Tinorangatiratanga over their selves we just needed the autonomy to do this

Tuuhono Hauora is based on Bridge Street, Huntly West, Raahui Pookeka.
We work alongside Huntly West Pharmacy, Pathlab and HW Medical.

We have heard the voices of our community talk about barriers of support that limit options to health for a whaanau.

‘We can’t get access or advice for the basic health care in a way that works for us’

‘I am not being listened too’
‘I can’t afford to get to Hamilton or pay for health care on the weekend or when my GP is closed’
‘I don’t understand my health disease’

Tuuhono has available a number of Maaori Hauora support options onsite, at Marae, in hui, on the field, at the gym. We are not confined to a Whare but the needs of community and people in our community… We aim to work hard to help.
