"He taiao whakahirahira te whakatuunga o Rāhui Pōkeka...
He tino whai mana te rohe o Rāhui Pōkeka.
Ko te tūmanako o Matawhaanui, he whakakaha i te wairua kotahi, te whakakaha i te ahurea Māori, me te whakapau kaha i te hauora o ngā tāngata i te hāpori.”
Matawhanui Trust has always been driven by a clear vision: To restore the beauty of Rāhui Pōkeka whare by whare, whānau by whānau, street by street with an aim to deliver holistic services to our hāpori while contributing sustainable value for our wider iwi. Throughout the past year, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to this vision, navigating a dynamic and challenging landscape and achieving remarkable milestones along the way.

Taitimu Maipi
Taitimu Maipi says he’s excited about the younger generation’s preparedness...
“When you listen to their kōrero, I think to myself that the young ones are starting to see the big picture, that ‘I am proud to be who I am, I belong to the river, the river belongs to me. I belong to Waikato, it is my tribe. I am here under the banner of the King movement.’ So they all know that now, they never used to know that. I didn’t know that when I was growing up.”

No te tihi o Taupiri, tangi ripo o Waikato.
Tōku iwi te poho o Tekauri me Wāhi e tū ake nei.
The village of Rāhui Pōkeka raised me and I remember vividly the connection to neighbourhood and what strong leadership looked like and stood for. They were driven with passion and purpose. Matawhaanui aims to uphold that legacy. I am grateful to be a part of this visionary team living with purpose helping to shape a stronger future for the next generation.
